Bᴇ ᴡᴀʀʏ ᴏғ ᴛʜᴇ 𝗣𝗨𝗣𝗣𝗘𝗧 ᴛʜᴀᴛ sɴɪᴘs ɪᴛs ᴏᴡɴ sᴛʀɪɴɢs.

A creature of smoke and stardust. A monster in the shape of a boy.

Kadaj is not only the physical embodiment of the madness that led to Sephiroth's ruin, but also his wrath, intelligence, and ruthless cunning.
After his brutal defeat by Cloud Strife at the end the Reunion Mission, Kadaj's soul was rejected by the Lifestream due to the pure dose of JENOVA cells he'd absorbed before the battle. This forced him to return to the Planet alone to live out the remainder of his existence in the echo of his failures and the rejection of the parasite he'd once called Mother.

He was reborn in the exact same place he'd perished, shrouded in the ruins of the fallen Sector 7, weak and disoriented. There is a brutal scar between Kadaj's shoulder blades immune to his inhuman regenerative abilities. It is a reminder of the black wing that had punched out of his skin when Sephiroth took hold of his body. It hurts almost constantly.

Without the Reunion Mission, Kadaj is in search of his purpose in a world that had never been meant for him.

He suffers from migraines, anxiety, and chronic nightmares due to the pure JENOVA cells still within him. Without ShinRa technology to keep them as stable as they are within SOLDIER's, the cells are ravaging Kadaj's body from the inside out.

FAMILY MATTERS

As per the storyline of the novel Final Fantasy VII: The Turks Are Alright, Kadaj is confirmed to have been the /only/ Remnant manifested by Sephiroth's will, therefore the only one of the three that could aid in his rebirth.
However, after a battle against ShinRa, Kadaj realized that he could not successfully complete the Reunion Mission on his own.

So, he split himself in three.

Loz and Yazoo were created by Kadaj within their Northern Crater shortly before the encounter with the Turks. Yazoo, the personification of Sephiroth's sensuality and aloofness, and Loz, his brutal strength and childlike desperation for their Mother, become Kadaj's older brothers and loyal allies in their fight to locate JENOVA's remains.

Though not human, the three share a very powerful sibling dynamic. Love and loyalty connect the Remnants across space and time, tethering their minds and emotions to each other. Though Kadaj is their leader, the three of them have always treated each other as equals.

Shortly after Yazoo and Loz followed Kadaj to the Planet in pursuit of a new purpose, they encountered Credence, a teenaged boy tainted by JENOVA cells within the ShinRa Labs, made to be a clone of Sephiroth. All three Remnants have adopted Credence as their little brother, aiding him in his newfound superhuman abilities.

Loz now owns and operates a mechanic's shop in Edge, putting his love of motorcycles to good use. Yazoo is more of a wanderer, drawn to the neon-drenched dangers of Wallmarket, where he drinks and dances and competes in battle arenas to get by. Credence has secured himself a cozy job in the ShinRa Coffee House, a position offered to him by none other than the President himself.

MOTHER DEAREST

JENOVA's return to the Planet in a mortal form has left Kadaj conflicted.

No longer is Mother a mere concept, but an actual breathing entity. A beautiful woman who speaks words of chaos and calamity like lullabies in Kadaj's ears. He is torn between his genuine love for her and the cold sting of her betrayal that came to pass during the Reunion Mission. His blind devotion to her had inevitably been Kadaj's downfall, leading him to be cast aside in favor of Sephiroth.

His existence had only ever been a means to an end.

Their relationship is strained, complex, but the adoration he still harbors has never wavered. However, Kadaj no longer wishes to be Mother's Little Soldier. He wants only to be her son.

ENEMIES TO LOVERS

Shortly after his resurrection, Kadaj crossed paths with none other than Cloud Strife, the mercenary who had inevitably led to his demise. Not wanting to leave the most dangerous Remnant of Sephiroth alone to wander the city unsupervised, Cloud reluctantly invited Kadaj to stay with him in a rundown old house on the edge of the Sector 7 Slums, which he had been in the process of slowly restoring to become a shelter for the local orphans.

Within those crooked old walls, it didn't take long for their dynamic to drastically shift. For hostility and aggression to grow into mutual pining. At first, they blamed the JENOVA cells they shared. A chemical imbalance forging a connection that neither of them apparently desired . . . at first.

Until the nights grew quieter. Until the nightmares became quelled by the other's presence, softening jagged edges and allowing defensive walls to crumble more and more each day. Until a shared bike ride across the city led to the connection of their hands within a sleepy Midgar bookshop, until a breathless confession became the first of many desperate kisses on a sun-drenched porch.

They'd fallen in love.

Now, with the house partially restored and the two of them working mercenary jobs to get by, Cloud has abandoned his plans for the orphanage and decided to make it their permanent home. A place of growth and healing and laughter, a place where the shadows of their pasts can't reach. A place where two broken soldiers can build a life anew, accompanied by a pair of stray kittens and enough plants to fill a greenhouse.

Kadaj has found his purpose.

He's the happiest he's ever been.
